Some Movies I’ve Enjoyed in 2024 (so far…)

This year I’m finding very interesting films from many different countries and with lots of cinematographic styles.

If there’s something I love more than writing, probably is watching movies, actually my dream would be to write scripts for TV or Cinema, but this is another story…

Here I have elaborated a list of 10 movies I enjoyed a lot during the first semester of 2024, and in my next article I will do another list about those movies that I’m looking forward to watch along the coming months of the year. Hope you enjoyed reading it as I have enjoyed writing.

Robot Dreams

is a 2023 animated tragicomedy film written and directed by Pablo Berger. A Spanish-French co-production about the friendship between a dog and a robot in New York City. Live in the city, loneliness, future, and a lot of universal themes treated with simplicity and a beautiful animation. To be watched from 0 to 99 years old.

The First Day of My Life

A mysterious man gifts four strangers on the brink of suicide a chance to see what life would be like without them. Paolo Genovese’s last movie with the acting of Toni Servillo, one of the best Italian actors these days and a brilliant guest star in Sorrentino’s film “La grande Bellezza”.

Poor Things

This is a 2023 science fiction comedy-drama film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone. It’s based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray. Excellent acting and wonderful history.

Perfect Days

Last drama film directed by Wim Wenders in 2023. Set in Tokyo and following the daily life of a toilet cleaner, an amazing chant about the ordinary life and the importance of kindness and relationships.

Hoard

Film debut of the director Luna Carmoon. The story follows Maria – a teenager whose mother used to be a hoarder. Intense and difficult in some moments, it results in a very interesting debut. A director to be followed in the future.

The Bikeriders

As the bikers club transforms into a dangerous underworld of violence, Benny must choose between Kathy and his loyalty to the club.

For more information you can read my previous article.

Les Meutes

It’s a dark film (literally, it all happens at night) where everything goes wrong for the main characters. A French-moroccan production that surprises for its atmosphere and tension. One of the big surprises of this year for me, with no doubt.

The Last Year of Darkness

A Chinese production, set in the clubbing atmosphere of Chengdu. Very representative of the new Chinese cinema. Tells the story of a group of young people who freely express their identities and find solace in the anonymity of the night. Another wonderful surprise.

Well, that’s all at the moment from my side. On the next one I will talk about movies still not released that I would love to watch.

I would love to hear your opinions in the comments, about these ones or the ones you have enjoyed more lately. Don’t hesitate to let your words there.

Thanks for reading.
